Industry News Desk The Missing Piece in Cloud Computing
Geva Perry's Virtualization Session at the Virtualization Conference & Expo, June 23-24, in New York City
May. 30, 2008 12:45 PM
To achieve the full potential
of "cloud computing" we need a broader definition of virtualization,
and that is the complete de-coupling of the logical components of an application
(represented by the software stack) and the physical resources. In the case of
middleware, whether it is data access, messaging or the business logic, the
physical location of the resources should not matter to the developer and to
the end user.
This is not a trivial thing to do, especially when it comes to
data-intensive, stateful (transactional or otherwise) applications and
services. In this session we will explore the challenges and propose a
solution, including a live demo.
Speaker Bio: Geva Perry is Chief Marketing Officer of GigaSpaces. He is responsible
for all marketing and business development activities, including
strategy and positioning, product marketing, analyst/media relations and
strategic alliances. Previously, he was GigaSpaces' EVP Business Development.
Prior to joining GigaSpaces, Perry was Chief Operating Officer at SeeRun, a
developer of real-time business activity monitoring software. In 1999, he co-founded and became General Partner of Synergy Ventures, a New York-based
venture capital fund focused on enterprise software start-ups. Prior to
founding Synergy, he worked at Earthweb, an online publisher of content for
the developer community, before, during and after its highly successful IPO in
1998. Perry received a Bachelor's degree from Hebrew University.
He holds an MS from the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and an MBA from Columbia Business School.

IDC has stated that the virtualization services market alone is going to reach
$11.7 billion by 2011 and in general this technology, which has been around for
a good number of years, seems suddenly to be on everyone's mind.
In short, Virtualization is fast becoming a key requirement for every server in
the data center, enabling increased workloads in server consolidation projects,
efficient software development and testing, resource management for dynamic
data centers, application re-hosting and compatibility, and high-availability
partitions.
Help with
that transformation: submit your speaking proposal today.
Topics will include:
- Server Virtualization
- Desktop Virtualization
- File Virtualization
- The Future of the Virtual Enterprise

Virtualization Articles & Feature Stories By Maureen O'Gara CA is buying privately held Nimsoft Inc for $350 million in cash, another bet in the cloud. The deal should close by the end of the month and Nimsoft would remain a standalone business unit under current management reporting to Chris O’Malley, head of CA’s cloud products and solutions business line.
CA will use money it has on hand but overseas to pay for the property.
The deal follows its recent acquisitions of Cassatt, NetQoS and Oblicore and its pending acquisition of 3Tera. All are basica... Mar. 12, 2010 12:15 PM EST | By Pat Romanski Law enforcement is no different in its IT needs and constraints from many other enterprises – they run legacy hardware. Migrating to a new on-premise system and hardware can be cost-prohibitive. This compels decision-makers to look for advice and evidence on how to successfully evolve existing solutions via the cloud.
In their session at the 5th International Cloud Expo, Al Perez, Chief Software Architect at Total Computer, and Gunther Lenz, ISV Architect Evangelist at Microsoft, will discuss ... Latest Virtualization Conference News By Jeremy Geelan Samuel Taylor Coleridge, whom most people know as an English poet, also wrote some very nice prose about words. For example he was the one who summed up poetry itself as being about, above all, choosing "the best possible words in the best possible order." Another fellow who knew a thing or two about words was a predecessor of mine - by a few hundred years! - at Trinity College, Cambridge. His name was Archbishop Richard Chevenix Trench and he produced, among another things, a little ... Reads: 8,784 By Jeremy Geelan Cloud computing is a game changer. The cloud is disrupting traditional software and hardware business models by disrupting how IT service gets delivered. Entrepreneurial opportunities abound as this classic disruptive technology begins to proliferate, so it is no surprise that SYS-CON's industry-leading International Cloud Expo is going from strength to strength. Call for Papers is now open! Reads: 12,261 By Ellen Rubin The talk at the Cloud Computing Expo this week in Santa Clara was all about enterprise cloud adoption. Is it real? Is it already happening? If so, who’s doing it, which applications are they running and which clouds are being tested? To a large extent, cloud computing is a victim of its own somewhat out-of-control hype cycle. Since so much has been written and discussed about the cloud in 2009, there is now a growing impatience for actual results. Reads: 7,935 By Bill Roth The most anticipated talk of the day yesterday, at the 4th International Cloud Expo, was by the deputy CIO of the CIA, Jill Singer. Her talk was entitled, "Enterprise Cloud Computing, the Infrastructure’s Final Revenge." She acknowledged the problem with defining Cloud Computing, and then went on to give her paragraph-length definition of “the cloud”. Her talk focused on the part of the Cloud behind the firewall. “Today’s CIO must increase the flexibility of the infrastructure,” said Singer. As Shugar noted in the days before his presentation, the company "is developing and utilizing Internet-scale cloud computing services to improve the consumer experience, speed innovation, simplify operating environments, and reduce costs. Reads: 8,267 By John Savageau Having gone through a couple of decades worth of technology conferences, a familiar cycle occurs. For the first couple years, technology-related conferences are attended by engineers and operations people. Only after the technology has passed a couple of feasibility gates and begun to hit the business cycle do sales and marketing people take over. Cloud is now officially past the engineering phase, well into the sales phase – and the business community is scrambling to understand the implications of a virtualized world. Reads: 7,086 By Fuat Kircaali As of January 2010, we booked more revenue for 2010 than the entire fiscal year 2009 actuals, including unearned income with record sponsorship sales for Cloud Expo East, Cloud Expo West and Cloud Expo Europe events.
Our revised revenue projections for 2010 is on track for an all time record revenues since our company's inception in 1994, including media sales up in January from a year ago.
As I made a reference to sponsorship and expo sales, I encourage all our sponsors to take contract option 2 which includes Cloud Expo 2010 East (New York City), Cloud Expo 2010 Europe (Prague, Czech Republic), and Cloud Expo 2010 West (Silicon Valley, California) events. Today, we have close to a 100% resign rate among our sponsors for the upcoming Cloud Expo, which will take place April 19-21, 2010, at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City.
I would like to take this opportunity to share some tips with all our valued sponsors, exhibitors, our rock start faculty, as well as our delegates. Reads: 4,344 |
